Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Aston Villa won 3-1 at Liverpool in English soccer’s Premier League to register its first victory at Anfield since 2001.
Villa went ahead through a Lucas own goal after 34 minutes, doubled the advantage seconds before halftime with a header from Curtis Davies and added a penalty kick from Ashley Young with 15 minutes remaining. Fernando Torres scored for the home team after 72 minutes.
The victory gives Villa three points after two games, leaving it 12th in the 20-team standings. Liverpool is two places higher, with the same number of points from three games after two defeats in nine days.
