KUALA LUMPUR: Sixth seeds Hong Kong scored an upset 3-0 win over third seeds Malaysia in the final Group C match of the team event in the World Junior squash championships in Chennai yesterday.
Hong Kong, who top the group with three straight wins, and will face Group A runners-up New Zealand in the quarter-finals.
Malaysia, who finished as runners-up, face an uphill task against Group A champions and defending champions Egypt in the last eight.
Against Hong Kong, Tan Yan Xin failed to collect the first point after losing 7-11, 11-6, 12-10, 5-11, 6-11 to Tsz Wing Tong.
Tsz Ling Liu delivered the winning point for Hong Kong with an 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 win over Low Wee Nee.
Ka Man Lee made it 3-0 with a 15-13, 11-6, 11-9 win over Nessrine Ariffin.
In the last championships in Hong Kong two years ago, Malaysia lost to Egypt in the final.
